About the Symposium

Promoting excellence in vascular surgery

The first annual East Africa Vascular Symposium (EAVS) aims to promote excellence in vascular surgery through education, research and collaboration. The symposium will bring together leaders in vascular surgery from across East Africa and will serve as an initial step in developing The East African Vascular Surgery Society.

Each scientific session will involve experts in vascular surgery presenting cutting-edge treatments for common vascular diseases. Each session will include case presentations and a “How I do it” section.

Voices shaping the field

Dr. Victor Awuor

Neurosurgeon · OhioHealth Grant Medical Center

Dr. Victor Awuor is a board-certified neurosurgeon practicing at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, known for his expertise in complex brain and spine surgery and his work in neurotrauma. Born and raised in Kisumu, Kenya, Dr. Awuor recognized a critical need to develop sustainable, locally driven neurosurgical expertise in Western Kenya. He is the co-founder of the Kisumu Neuroscience Initiative and, since 2017, has led the Kisumu Neurosurgery Camp and Symposium, playing a pivotal role in training, mentorship, and helping bring three full-time neurosurgeons to the region.

Dr. Ron Dalman

Chief of Vascular Surgery · Stanford University

Dr. Ron Dalman is the Walter C. and Elsa R. Chidester Professor and Chief of Stanford Vascular Surgery. Dr. Dalman has served in many leadership positions including President of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and the Western Vascular Society. Dr. Dalman is a widely recognized international leader of vascular surgery.
